Metella Road Public School has been crowned the Wanderers School of the Year after taking out the 2016 version of the annual competition.
It was a record year for the Wanderers School of the Year competition with a record number of schools participating which saw a large number of students engaged through education and football.
Wanderers School of the Year is a points-based competition that encourages students to engage with healthy lifestyles, education and football.
After missing out by only a couple of points in 2015, Metella Road stormed home to take the winners’ crown this year and won an incredible experience for their students in return.
Over 20 Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and Foxtel National Youth League players came to Metella Road PS to put on a full day fete which included football clinics and games.
Jumping castles and face painting was also available to give the students a mini-game day experience and some memories they will never forget.
Wanderers Community Engagement Officer said the 2016 competition was a success.
“The school engagement was quite high, we had schools competing in a multiple school programs, participating in various curriculum and key course content and supported by the Wanderers”, said Hunter.
“It means we’re making a difference in the school space and helping teachers deliver content and curriculum that the kids enjoy doing and feel engaged with.
“Metella Road came so close last year and are one of the most active schools in Western Sydney. They are very willing to support new programs and projects and they are reaping the benefits of having a year-long football program in their school.”
