Western Sydney Wanderers FC are proud to announce the signing of French midfielder Romain Amalfitano for the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season.
The experienced midfielder started his professional career in France’s Ligue 2 with Evian and Remains before signing with English Premier League side Newcastle United where he featured in their UEFA Europa League ties.
Amalfitano returned to France in 2013, first on loan to Dijon before securing a long-term deal at the club which saw him in the North-East of France for eight seasons.
At Dijon, Amalfitano guided the team to promotion in Ligue 1 and played over 200 matches for the club.
The 32-year-old then played his first two seasons in Asia with Al-Faisaly in the Saudi Professional League where he won the King’s Cup and was the runner-up of the Super Cup.
Amalfitano will arrive in Western Sydney in the coming weeks to link up with the Red & Black for their commencement of pre-season.
Wanderers head coach Mark Rudan welcomed Romain to the club.
“Romain is a fantastic professional with great pedigree having played in the top-fight of French and Saudi Arabian football,” said Rudan.
“We welcome his experience and quality to the playing squad and expect his character to fit in well with the culture and environment we are transforming at the club.”
Amalfitano said he was very excited for the challenge.
“I wanted to discover another league and a new culture for my family. I had spoken to head coach Mark Rudan on the phone and he convinced me to come to Western Sydney because he has ambitions for the club and for the fans,” said Amalfitano.
“I hope to have the best possible season but I am a team player, so the most important thing is that we go as far as possible in our objectives.”
