Western Sydney Wanderers FC have this morning confirmed the signing of forward Brandon Borrello for the next two Isuzu UTE A-League seasons.
Borrello returns to the domestic competition for the first time since 2017, having spent the last five years in Germany.
The forward joined Kaiserslautern in 2017 where he made 36 appearances and scored three goals before securing a three-year deal at Frieberg.
During his time at Freiburg, Borrello had a season on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf where he made 22 appearances before a season at Dynamo Dresden in the Bundesliga 2.
The forward has also made nine appearances for the Australian National Team and was part of the Socceroos recent qualification campaign for the FIFA World Cup.
Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Mark Rudan welcomed Brandon to the club.
“We are delighted to have a player of Brandon’s calibre in Western Sydney and are proud to bring him back to the A-Leagues competition,” explained Rudan.
“Brandon’s experience in Germany over the last five years have no doubt taken his game to another level and we are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the side over the next two seasons.”
Borrello thanked the club and said he was eager to get started.
“I just want to say thank you to the Wanderers for the massive opportunity to play for such a club. The atmosphere, the coach and the team is what has me most excited about coming back to Australia. I think it’s a great fit for me and I can’t wait to get back,” said Borrello.
“I want to hit the ground running and get on the level of my teammates as fast as I can.
“I think with the team that has been built by the coaching staff, it’s completely up to us as we have the quality and we want to win trophies.
“I don’t want to be shy about it, we have a great team being built so why shouldn’t we want to succeed in every way possible. Individually, that will all come when I’m playing well.
“The first job is to get into the training with the boys and make sure I fit in well, so I can’t wait!”
