In preparation for tomorrow’s Westfield FFA Cup and the upcoming Hyundai A-League season, we spent last week in Coffs Harbour training hard and playing a match against Central Coast Mariners.
We’ve compiled the best signs from the trip that shows we’re on the right track for success in 2015/16.
Our line-up is looking good
Take away the minutes where our backline was composed of trialists and we dominated the match against Central Coast Mariners. Attacks down the flanks with over-lapping full backs and centrally with Nichols combining with Bridge created a number of chances.
This was all without Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Brendon Santalab and Shannon Cole as well as new signings Federico Piovaccari, Delgado and Alberto.
You can see the team in action yourself tomorrow when we take on Brisbane Roar in the Westfield FFA Cup. Tickets are available here.
New signings are fitting in
With a week spent in Coffs Harbour the new boys have truly become part of the team. Mingling off the pitch and playing on the pitch like they have been here their entire career, Scott Jamieson, Andreu, Mitch Nichols, Scott Neville, Jacob Pepper and Andrew Redmayne did not miss a beat in the match against Central Coast.
FFA Cup aside, there is still a while for the Hyundai A-League season to get underway meaning these new players can further get used to the team while the even newer signings will be able to gel too.
The Pied Piper loves working in the community
We saw our first glimpse of our new marquee signing interacting with the community during the squad’s clinic with North Coast players and he fit right in. Encouraging kids with big smiles, high fives and broken English the striker had the time of his life and gave many juniors memories that are going to last a lifetime.
Our fans are as loyal as ever
Despite it being on a Friday night and six hours from home our fans did not disappoint, travelling to C.ex Coffs International Stadium in big numbers. While there were goals aplenty, the loudest by far was saved for Romeo’s strike and there were plenty of familiar faces chatting to the players after the match.
We can’t wait to see you all out at tomorrow’s Westfield FFA Cup match as we attempt to break the record crowd for a Round of 32 fixture.
