The African Cup NSW 2022 football tournament reaches the home stretch this weekend at Wanderers Football Park.
The tournament kicked off with a colourful opening ceremony attended by all teams at the Wanderers Isuzu UTE A-League season opener on 9 October 2022.
A week later, the football action began with the competition growing to a record-number of teams participating. This year there were 38 teams participating – 20 Mens, 6 Womens and 12 junior teams.
Following the Group Stages and Quarter Finals, the Semi Finals brought together some of the biggest matches in African Cup NSW history.
Reigning Champions South Sudan were pitted against a resilient and stoic Zimbabwe who defeated the side 2-1 in extra time. This Semi Final fixture was described as a Houdini act with the dethroning of the former Champions.
In the other Semi Final, Cape Verde confidently defeated Sudan 6-2.
The Womens Semi Finals saw Sierra Leone thrash Zimbabwe 8-1 while Ghana forfeited their match to South Sudan.
This weekend will see the tournament come to an end with Wanderers Football Park hosting four epic Grand Finals.
All teams have vowed to replicate the spectacle of the 2020 Ghana and South Sudan Final at the same venue.
African Cup NSW invites all to come and watch the Grand Finals this weekend and experience rich African culture, the spirit of unity and oneness.
