Ins & Outs: Wanderers v Western United

Head coach Marko Rudan has named his extended squad for Sunday afternoon’s clash against Western United. Ins & Outs brought to you by ABAL Banking.

The Red & Black will be heading into the match after sharing the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Central Coast Mariners.

From the outset, both sides were intent on attacking the ball and played at a high standard as they jostled for second spot on the ladder.

Sammy Silvera had given Central Coast a 30th-minute lead before Yeni Ngbakoto’s stunning moment of individual brilliance levelled proceedings five minutes later.

The Wanderers took the lead on the hour mark via Brandon Borrello but Central Coast were not done as Jason Cummings equalised with his eighth goal of the season in the 73rd minute.

The Red & Black will be looking to continue their fine form when they face Western United on Sunday afternoon.

Similarly, Western United will be coming off the back of a 2-2 draw against Macarthur FC.

Mile Sterjovski’s hopes of a dream start to his Isuzu UTE A-League coaching life were dealt a late blow as Western United secured a late 2-2 draw against Macarthur FC on Saturday.

Macarthur looked to be heading for an unlikely victory until Western substitute Nicolas Milanovic scored an 89th-minute equaliser at Campbelltown Stadium.

Lachlan Wales had bagged Western’s opener but even with 10 men after Kearyn Baccus’ 49th-minute dismissal for a second yellow card Macarthur were able hit the lead.

Matthew Millar poked home at a corner soon after Wales’ opener and then Jed Drew was able to finish past Western goalkeeper Jamie Young with 10 minutes of regular time left.

But Milanovic popped up late on, squeezing his way through a sea of Macarthur defenders to end Sterjovski’s hopes of a perfect start to life as Bulls boss.

With both sides desperate for three points this weekend, it will be important for the Wanderers to create some momentum heading into the following week’s blockbuster Sydney Derby.
