While the Wanderers had plenty to celebrate on Friday night, striker Brandon Borrello quietly etched his name into the Isuzu UTE A-League Men history books having made his 100th appearance in the domestic competition.
A standout season in the Red & Black has seen Borrello make a name for himself in Western Sydney and it’s easy to see why.
Borrello has been more than just the striker the Wanderers have been waiting many a season for. Passionate, charismatic, relentless and resilient, the 27-year-old epitomises what it means to don the Red & Black.
The striker has featured in every match in his first season at the club and scored 12 goals, but it is off the field where Borrello has perhaps made his biggest impact.
Dozens of appearances in the community and always the last to head into the changerooms post-match, Borrello has become the adopted son of Western Sydney.
Winding back the clock to almost 10 years ago, Borrello burst onto the A-Leagues scene with his local club Brisbane Roar where he played for four seasons before heading overseas to Germany.
At the Roar, Borrello made 75 appearances and scored 13 goals, and was one of the most memorable attackers in the A-Leagues.
It was during this time at Brisbane that Borrello was the first Australian to score four goals in Asia, putting four past Global FC in the Roar’s first AFC Champions League Qualifier in 2017.
Borrello then spent five years in Germany at sides Frieberg, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Dynamo Dresden before returning back to the domestic competition with the Wanderers.
A career-best form at Western Sydney has seen Borrello rewarded for his performances with his first national team call-up in three years, going on to score in the Socceroos clash against Ecuador last month.
It has been the near-perfect start to Borrello’s journey at the Wanderers and with the best yet to come, we’re very excited to see where the next 100 A-Leagues appearances takes Western Sydney’s adopted son.
