Western Sydney Wanderers FC have tonight farewelled Daniel Wilmering who departs the club to pursue another opportunity.
Wilmering leaves after eight years, forging his own path from the Wanderers Academy to the Isuzu UTE A-League.
The defender has grown up in the Red & Black family having been a foundation member and ball boy in the club’s first ever A-Leagues match.
Wilmering made his first team debut at CommBank Stadium’s football opening in July 2019 and became a vital part of the senior squad.
An unfortunate Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in December 2019 saw the Western Sydney local sidelined for a year before making his comeback in 2021 against Melbourne Victory.
Wilmering went on to sign his first professional deal with his boyhood club in 2021 and will now depart the club having made 34 appearances.
Western Sydney Wanderers CEO Scott Hudson thanked Wilmering for his loyalty to the club over the last eight years.
“It has been a pleasure to watch Daniel grow up at the club over the last eight years and it has been very special to watch his journey from boy to man,” said Hudson.
“Daniel has always been a fantastic role model to the next generation of players coming through our Academy and has always been a positive and friendly face to see around the facility.
“On behalf of all the football staff, administration staff, partners and Wanderers family, we would like to thank Daniel for his contribution to the club and will be supporting him from afar in the next stage of his football career.”
Head coach Marko Rudan thanked Wilmering for his efforts at the club.
“We would like to thank Daniel for his efforts at the club over the last eight years and wish him all the best at his next club.”
Daniel Wilmering said he was proud to live out his boyhood dream at his local club.
“I can honestly look back and feel proud of what I did at the Wanderers because that little boy that turned up to Pirtek (old Wanderers stadium) with his parents every home game, he got to live out his dream of playing for this club,” said Wilmering.
“I couldn’t be prouder or happier to be able to do that. It means everything.
“I just want to thank everyone that has helped me on this journey, the club gave me an opportunity to be a professional footballer which is what I’ve always wanted and it’s something I won’t forget.
“I’ve learnt so much here and I’ve grown a lot as a person and a player. I came here as a young boy and I’m leaving here somewhat as a man, I’m so appreciative and I can’t thank the club enough for everything they have done for me.”
The Wanderers would like to wish Daniel all the best in the next stage of his professional career and thank him for every minute he has spent on and off the field representing Western Sydney.
