Born in Suriname, Romeo moved to the Netherlands at an early age and began his youth career at De Volewijckers before making his senior debut for Den Haag while still under the age of 18.

Having helped the second division club get promoted to the Eredivisie as Champions, Romeo caught the eye and was soon pursued by a number of top European clubs with heavyweights Feyenoord claiming his prized signature.

Following a number of seasons at Feyenoord, the now Dutch international – having made his Netherlands debut in 2004 – moved abroad to join Hamburg in Germany but not before claiming the 2006 U21 European Championship.

Plagued by injury problems at Hamburg, Romeo moved first to Russia and then back to the Netherlands before signing with the Western Sydney Wanderers on 20 July 2014.

Making his debut in Round One of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season against Melbourne Victory, Romeo scored his first goal for the Red & Black against ES Setif in the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup.

Following strong performances in the Hyundai A-League, FIFA Club World Cup and AFC Champions League, Romeo was announced as the 2014/15 Amart Members’ Player of the Year.

Romeo departed the Wanderers at the conclusion of his contract on Thursday 5 May 2016.
