A top of the table clash awaits our NPL NSW side, as they make the trip to WIN Stadium to face off against second place Wollongong Wolves on Sunday.
The Wanderers currently sit two points clear of their opponents at the top of the table after their midweek win over the Mariners, with a first half blitz paving the way for a second 5-2 win in as many games.
The Wanderers’ senior players stood up in the big moments, as all five goalscorers were scholarship players.
Marcus Younis, Aydan Hammond and Zac Sapsford all scored to add to their goals in Friday night’s Sydney Derby win, whilst Anthony Pantazopoulos scored a rare wonder goal, and Nathaneal Blair continued his brilliant start to the season as his seventh goal in five games rounded off the scoring against the Mariners.
The Wanderers’ attack has carried them in their early success this season, with their 21 goals in six games being seven higher than the next closest teams, with the Red and Black hitting the back of the net an average of over three times a game.
Andrew Christiansen will be delighted with his side’s start to the season, but knows the journey will only get harder as a tough run of fixtures looms on the horizon starting this weekend.
Wollongong, led by David Carney, have also surprised many with their start to the season, having only lost once and coming into the match off the back of a dominant 4-0 win over Hills United.
This match will see a real attack versus defence battle, as the Wolves have the best defensive record in the league with just four goals conceded, it is something the Wanderers will look to emulate as they look for their first clean sheet of the season.
There are some familiar faces in the Wolves line up this weekend, with former Wanderers
A-League Men’s players Lachlan Scott and Vedran Janjetovic featuring prominently in the Wollongong side to begin the season, with the former having four goals, and the latter recording three clean sheets in a row.
