NPL Preview: St George City v Western Sydney Wanderers

Our NPL NSW side travels to face St George City looking to turn around their tough run of form.

It has been a difficult couple of months for the Wanderers, who despite determined
performances in adverse circumstances, have suffered from a run of results and factors out of
control that have seen them slide from the race at the top of the table to fighting to get into the finals places.

It is tough on a young side where many of the players have had to take on added responsibility
after big roster changes, and they will hope to eventually get reward for their endeavours,
starting this weekend against a St George team struggling for consistency.

The team from the South of Sydney had a big year last year in their first season of NPL NSW
action, but have found the going a bit tougher this year, sitting in seventh and with a goal
difference of -5.

They have only won consecutive games once this season, and have lost three of their last five
matches. Their last game, an away match against Marconi, saw St George finish with nine men as Solomon Monahan-Vaiika and Matthew Keremelevski received their marching orders in a 2-1
defeat.

Red cards have been a huge problem for Mirko Jurlij’s side, having received 10 this season; Keremelevski has received three, whilst Monahan-Vaiika and Presley Ortiz have two each.

They didn’t receive any in the reverse fixture between the sides, but they were instead on the
wrong end of a 6-1 shellacking as the Wanderers put on one of their best performances of the
season at home. They were up 2-0 after eight minutes and led 5-1 at half-time in a staggering display of attacking power.

It will probably be a closer game today, but the three points would be just as sweet if the boys in Red and Black can get over the line.
