NPL Preview: Blacktown City v Wanderers

There is a local derby in the NPL NSW this weekend, as the Wanderers travel to face Blacktown City at Landen Stadium.

The Red & Black will be desperate for improvement and a good result after a well below par game last weekend against St George City.

They were slow out of the blocks and were punished ruthlessly by their opponents who scored three goals in the first 25 minutes of the match to leave the Wanderers with an uphill mountain to climb.

It ended up being a sobering 5-0 defeat for the Young Wanderers, whose season is unfortunately petering out after showing much promise earlier in the year.

They still have the quality to beat any side in the league, and they will be well up for the match against a Blacktown side they got the better of in the reverse fixture.

It was a clinical display from the Wanderers, as they won 3-0 in a match where both sides finished with 10 men.

It won’t be easy against a Blacktown side sitting in the top four and looking to consolidate their place in the finals.

They were held to a surprise 1-1 draw on the road to the Mariners last weekend, but had won the previous two games, meaning they now sit on 45 points.

Jak O’Brien has been in hot goalscoring form, netting 16 for the season so far, leaving him in third on the scoring charts.

The head-to-head record between the sides is even since the Wanderers return to the NPL NSW competition, with each side having one win, with the match at Landed Stadium last season being a 0-0 draw in a tight, defensive affair.
