NPL Preview: Sydney Olympic v Western Sydney Wanderers

Our NPL NSW side travels to face Sydney Olympic this Saturday in the penultimate match of the season at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The tough run of form for a very youthful Wanderers side continued last weekend against Sydney United, where they lost 2-0 in the final home game of the season.

The task was made extremely difficult after Antony Barbic’s early red card, and whilst the Wanderers created chances of their own and played with a positive mindset throughout the match, the numerical disadvantage proved too much of an obstacle.

It means the Wanderers sit in 10th spot with two rounds to play, and they will hope to finish the season on a high note against an inconsistent Olympic outfit.

They have lost their last two matches, including 3-0 at home to a relegation threatened St George FC and will miss out on the finals in a disappointing season for the big club.

Striker Roy O’Donovan has performed well in spite of this, scoring 18 goals to sit second on the scorer charts, and the team has had some impressive wins over Marconi, Sydney United and Rockdale.

They weren’t able to beat the Wanderers in the reverse fixture, going down in a 3-2 thriller.
There were three goals in three crazy first half minutes, and an equaliser in the second half from former Wanderer Teng Kuol.

Just when Olympic thought they had snatched a point, Nathaneal Blair stepped up and scored a stoppage time free-kick to seal the win for the Wanderers.

A win for the Wanderers could see them leapfrog NWS Spirit into 9th spot on the table.
