Sapsford and the Wanderers put on a gritty display in their recent clash against Newcastle Jets with the young gun getting on the scoresheet in the club’s 4-1 victory.
The Red & Black played with confidence, and Sapsford believes that it’s just a glimpse of what the Wanderers are capable of as they set their sights on the Unite Round Sydney Derby.
“We needed that, and I think we showed tonight that’s what we are capable of,” Sapsford shared after the game.
“Obviously, I’m a striker, and I love scoring goals,” he added. “Especially in front of a home crowd, it’s the best thing ever.”
But it wasn’t just the Wanderers attack that stood out. The Red & Black’s backline put in a solid shift, holding Newcastle to just one goal.
“The way we play is tough, so we’re always going to leak some goals,” Sapsford admitted.
“But tonight, and even in other games, our defense has been very good.”
The Wanderers now have a bit of a breather with the International Break with Sapsford ready to carry this momentum moving forward.
“Hopefully, we can bring that for the next couple of games coming up. The Sydney Derby is next, and we’ll bring that again. So we’ll be ready.”
With a win against Newcastle in the books, the Wanderers are building up the confidence they’ll need heading into the blockbuster Unite Round Sydney Derby in two week’s time.
