NPL 1 Wrap: Wanderers dominant in victory over Manly United

The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 Side have defeated Manly United in a dominant 2-0 victory at Wanderers Football Park.

Manly came into this game as heavy favourites but ultimately fell to the Wanderers who secured their second win of the season and have lifted off the bottom of the ladder in a dominant 2-0 win over the Northern Beaches side.

The Wanderers handed Edmun Haddad a starting berth in place of Nicholas Badalato in what proved to be a culmination of positive performances in weeks prior turning into a complete performance taking home all three points.

Aiden Simmons was back to his livewire best as he broke away just after the ten minute mark but was unfortunate not to find Haddad with a pass across goal.

It was all Red and Black in the first half as they limited Manly United to one shot on goal, although Julian Cop proved to be the difference maker as he thunderbolted a Awan Lual through ball into the top left corner of to give the Wanderers the lead going into half time.

The Wanderers came out in similar fashion to the first half, assuring their defence was tight and the midfield base of Saxon Hillyer and Cop showed a ensured level of stamina supporting the defence as Manly searched for an equaliser.

This paid dividends as the away side resorted to shooting from distance as Harry Van Der Saag forced Tristan Vidakovic into a great save that kept the Wanderers in the lead.

Lual and Hillyer came inches from doubling the lead as a threatening Simmons ball across goal found Lual, only for a mistouch that allowed the keeper to get in position and make the save. Hillyer then found himself on the rebound, but a tackle by the Manly defender took away any chance of a Wanderers second.

Substitute Noah Peacock almost collected his first of the season, only for the shot to fall straight into the gloves of Levi Kaye.

Simmons would then find himself in the centre of a Wanderers attack once again, as he pounced on a misplaced Manly deflection to put the chance away in the bottom left corner.

A third almost followed but Kaye ensured that a Luka Knezevic cross did not trickle its way into the back of the net.

The win sees the Wanderers lift to 14th on the table, ahead of Mount Druitt and Central Coast Mariners before their trip to Rockdale Ilinden next Saturday.
