The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 Women’s side suffered a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Mount Druitt Town Rangers.
The Western Sydney Wanderers travelled to Popondetta Park in hope they could avoid a fourth straight loss against the top of the table Mount Druitt Town Rangers.
The Wanderers had a few changes following last week’s loss, with Tahlia Voskanian and Lauren Nada starting for the first time this season, Nada also consequently receiving her first grade debut following a strong season in the U23s this year.
The match was evenly poised in the opening fifteen minutes, before Olivia Vanderlaan broke the deadlock, latching onto a superb ball over the top from Christa Oliva. The striker calmly chipped goalkeeper Renee Krstanovska, who was off her line, to put the Wanderers ahead.
Subsequently, the Rangers returned the favour as Leena Khamis got on the end of a long ball from Goalkeeper Krstanovska to take the ball around Jasmine Selva for the equaliser.
The Rangers would continue to apply the pressure following the equaliser with speedster Rita Boateng coming the closest to netting her side’s second.
The Rangers capitalised four minutes into the second half when Khamis found space once again and chipped a backtracking Selva from distance. The decorated striker proved lethal once more, punishing the Wanderers for a defensive miscommunication.
Soon after, Boateng would deliver a cross above Selva to find Erin Tavares for the Rangers’ third of the game.
Rosie Galea would then net their fourth following a parry, before Isabel Preston sealed the win with their fifth goal two minutes later.
The Wanderers will look back on this game regretting the missed chances at crucial moments, particularly just after halftime, when the momentum swung with a two-goal turnaround.
This marks the Wanderers’ fourth consecutive loss. They now travel to North Turramurra Recreation Area to face the high-flying Northern Tigers, hoping to build momentum and get their season back on track.
