The Wanderers NPL 1 Women’s side return to Wanderers Football Park on Sunday to take on APIA Leichhardt in search of their first win since round 13.
The Western Sydney Wanderers return to Wanderers Football Park in hope they can topple sixth place Apia Leichhardt, following a 2-1 loss to the Gladesville Ravens last weekend.
The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Womens side will be desperate to collect all three points as another loss could have them slip closer to the relegation zone, they come into this game following a disappointing loss to the Gladesville Ravens.
Given that Macarthur Rams play the Jets this weekend, and the trailing Sydney University could potentially be on level points if they are to collect all three points this weekend and win their game in hand.
APIA Leichhardt come into this game following a statement 2-0 win over league leaders Mount Druitt Town Rangers. Sophie Hoban continued her budding form with another goal against the Rangers as her influence continues to flourish within the side.
The last time the two sides faced off was in Round 5 where the Wanderers would walk away winners against then league leaders APIA Leichhardt as Olivia Vanderlaan would snatch a late goal to secure an underdog win for Rooty Hill side.
The Key Decider: Sophie Hoban
The Newcastle Jets superstar was one of many A-League additions to the APIA side as they looked to add several mid-season additions to help their quest for finals football.
The versatile midfielder has been able to hone her craft in multiple positions, but plays her best football in central midfield. Her time at APIA this season has seen her creep higher up the field and four goals in her last five games has only added another string to her bow.
She will be certain to provide a threat once more to a young Wanderers defence, and as seen in the Sapphire Cup clash a couple weeks ago, will always be present in the attacking box awaiting the chance to pounce.
If she is to continue playing with the same confidence and ruthlessness, she will likely stamp herself on this game and provide a challenge for whoever is to be assigned the job of marking her.
Expect an exciting game where the Wanderers will be desperate to collect three points for the first time since the 1st of June. A win for either side could be monumental for their hopes come the end of the season.
