Captain Thomas embracing pre-season challenge against Indonesian giants Persib Bandung

Wanderers captain Lawrence Thomas said the squad is looking forward to the chance to test themselves in front of a huge crowd this weekend, as the Red & Black prepare for a high-energy pre-season fixture against Indonesian heavy-weights Persib Bandung.

The match offers a valuable early test for the Wanderers, who are using the trip to build momentum ahead of the Australia Cup and the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League Men season.

“It’s a privilege to be here to play against such a great club,” said Thomas.

“It’s so early in pre-season for our team to travel together and play a very strong opponent. It will be great for us to prepare for the Cup coming up and also the season.”

Although it’s only pre-season for the Red & Black, Thomas knows the clash with Persib will be a big occasion, pointing to the electric atmosphere in their recent games and expecting an even bigger turnout on Saturday night.

“We’ve already seen a bit of video on Persib and even in the last game against the Thailand team the crowd was quite large,” said Thomas.

“I think it’s going to be even bigger than that on Saturday, so we’re looking forward to a great atmosphere.”

Persib Bandung are one of Indonesia’s most successful and well-supported clubs, known for their loud, loyal fanbase and attacking style of play. The fixture marks an exciting opportunity for the Wanderers to continue to build match fitness against a top opposition in a challenging away environment.
