The Wanderers NPL 1 Women’s side return to Wanderers Football Park to take on Sydney University in hope to break a run of losses as they head towards the final rounds of the season.
The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL Women’s side return to Wanderers Football Park eager to turn momentum in their favour as they push for a strong finish to the season.
The Wanderers come into this game following a 1-0 loss to the Bulls FC Academy. Despite the loss, there was plenty to be proud of, as the side limited the league leaders to a solitary goal in what was a positive performance from the Rooty Hill side.
Sydney University went down to UNSW in a 2-1 loss to their biggest rival, the derby saw UNSW hold on to the solitary goal lead in what was their first loss following a run of big wins in the previous weeks.
The last time the two sides faced off, we saw a Maddison Van Dijk added time first half goal be enough to defeat the Wanderers in a tightly contested affair. The loss saw the Wanderers head into a run of unfortunate losses, so they will be looking to settle the score on Sunday.
The Key Decider: Talia Kapetanellis v Miriam Zumaya
The former Wanderer meets her successor on Sunday, in what shapes to be a chance for either player to be the difference maker for their side. Both enigmatic wingers play a massive role in their sides attacking set up as they are both capable of producing both creative and striking moments for their team.
Since leaving the Wanderers NPL side, Talia Kapetanellis has quickly become a fan favourite at Sydney Uni thanks to her ability to take control of games, something the team had been missing before her arrival. She’s developed a knack for stepping up in big moments, most recently scoring the equaliser against UNSW.
Despite her young age, Miriam Zumaya has been a dependable presence in what’s been a disruptive season for the Red & Black. Amid departures, injuries, and call-ups, she’s remained a constant, repeatedly proving that talent knows no age.
Both wingers will be eager to make their mark, knowing their teams will rely on them to deliver if they’re to claim the full points. Expect an exciting contest between two sides aiming to finish their seasons on a high.
