Western Sydney Wanderers FC can this morning confirm the signing of defender Jacob Farrell who joins the club on loan from Portsmouth FC until the end of the 2025/26 A-Leagues season.
The Gosford-born defender developed through the Central Coast Mariners Academy before making his professional breakthrough in 2021, where he became a key figure in one of the club’s most successful periods in history.
Farrell helped the Mariners secure back-to-back A-League Men Championships in 2022/23 and 2023/24, the Premiership in 2023/24 and played an important role in the club’s 2024 AFC Cup Triumph. In recognition of his standout form, Farrell was also named in the PFA A-League Men Team of the Season for 2023/24, highlighting his consistency, defensive quality, and influence at the back.
In July 2024, the defender made the move to English side Portsmouth FC where he has gained valuable experience in a demanding overseas competition.

Head coach Gary van Egmond welcomed Farrell to the Wanderers, emphasising the strength and experience he brings to the squad for the remainder of the season.
“Jacob has proven himself in some of the biggest games in Australian football and has also tested himself abroad,” said van Egmond.
“His winning mentality and professionalism align perfectly with our club’s ambitions for the remainder of the season, and we’re excited to welcome him to the Wanderers family.”
Jacob Farrell said he was ready to contribute to the Red & Black.
“’I’ve come back in search of more consistent match minutes which I have lacked over the last year. The Wanderers were willing to give me a chance to fight for minutes on the field again I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” said Farrell.
“My main goal is to help the team reach the Top 6, the table is still very close and the belief to make the Finals is alive.
“I always enjoyed versing the Wanderers in the past, the clubs support base is full of passionate fans and I’m excited to represent the West and give my all for the club.”
Farrell will be available for selection in the squad following his International Transfer Clearance.
