The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 1 side continued their strong recent form on Friday night, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manly United at Cromer Park thanks to a moment of brilliance from Harper Ryles in the second half.
In a contest where chances were created at both ends but clear openings remained limited for long stretches, it was the Wanderers who showed patience and composure to claim all three points, securing their second clean sheet of the season and moving into the top six after back to back victories.
The opening stages were evenly contested, with both sides looking to establish control through midfield. Joshua Cetinic produced the Wanderers’ first real sight of goal inside ten minutes, striking from distance as the visitors looked to test Manly early, before the home side responded with several dangerous attacking moments of their own.
As Manly began to build momentum, the Wanderers were forced into several important defensive interventions, with Tristan Vidackovic again proving composed between the posts while the backline stood firm under periods of pressure.
Oscar Moore came closest for the Wanderers during the first half, arriving inside the box and nearly sliding an effort beyond the advancing goalkeeper after a sharp attacking move. Harper Ryles also threatened before the break, firing narrowly over from a difficult angle as the Red and Black began to find greater rhythm in transition.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Manly continuing to push forward and the Wanderers forced to remain disciplined without the ball.
A crucial defensive clearance from Oscar Morrison denied a dangerous chance inside the area as the home side searched for the opener, while Vidackovic was again called upon to produce an important save during a period of growing pressure.
Despite that pressure, the Wanderers remained dangerous whenever opportunities arose to break quickly. Their pressing high up the field began to cause problems, and in the 74th minute that pressure nearly produced the breakthrough when Alaat Abdul-Rahman won possession in an advanced area before Lachlan Sattout curled narrowly over the crossbar.
The decisive moment arrived three minutes later through Harper Ryles. Collecting the ball with space opening ahead of him, the young attacker drove directly at goal, surging through the Manly defence before finishing confidently to hand the Wanderers a deserved lead.
The goal shifted momentum firmly toward the visitors, but Manly continued to press in the closing stages in search of an equaliser. A late free kick forced Vidackovic into another strong save, with the goalkeeper rising well to preserve the advantage as the Wanderers defended through the final minutes.
After showing resilience in difficult moments and quality when it mattered most, the Wanderers now continue to build momentum in the competition, with consecutive victories reinforcing the side’s growing confidence heading into the next round.
