Western Sydney Wanderers FC are delighted to welcome home hometown hero and Johnny Warren Medallist Nicolas Milanovic, with the fan favourite returning to the Red & Black on a three-year deal.
Milanovic return to the Wanderers after spending the past year in Europe, where he furthered his development in a demanding professional environment before making the decision to return to the club where he established himself as one of Australian football’s most exciting attacking talents.
A product of Western Sydney and a lifelong Wanderers supporter, Milanovic enjoyed a remarkable spell in Red & Black after arriving in 2023. Across two and a half seasons, he became one of the A-League Men’s most influential players, claiming the Club’s Golden Boot, helping deliver the Wanderers’ most prolific attacking campaign and earning the game’s highest individual honour, the Johnny Warren Medal.
His return represents another significant statement of intent from the Wanderers as the Club continues to strengthen its squad with proven quality ahead of the new season, adding one of the competition’s premier attacking players to an exciting and ambitious group.
Wanderers Football Director Mal Impiombato said Milanovic’s return is another statement of the Club’s ambition.
“Nic is one of Western Sydney’s own, and we’re incredibly proud to welcome him back to the Club. He left as the Johnny Warren Medalist and returns with valuable experience that will only add to his quality as a player,” said Impiombato.
“Our ambition is to build a squad capable of challenging for trophies, and bringing back players with Nic’s quality, passion and desire to represent Western Sydney is a key part of that vision.
“He’s a fan favourite for a reason, and we know our members and supporters will be just as excited as we are to see him back in the Red & Black.”
Head coach Ufuk Talay believes Milanovic’s return adds another exciting dimension to the Wanderers’ attack.
“Nic’s an exciting player who brings energy, power and quality in the final third. He’s someone who can create and score goals, and he is a fantastic addition to the squad we are building,” said Talay.
“His experience overseas will help him, but for me it’s about making sure he enjoys his football again. When Nic is playing with confidence and freedom, he’s one of the best players in the competition.
“He knows what his Club stands for and what it means to represent Western Sydney. We’re excited to have him back and we’re looking forward to what we can achieve together.”
Milanovic said returning to the Wanderers was an opportunity that immediately felt right.
“Coming back to the Wanderers just felt right. This club has always meant a lot to me and I’m incredibly proud to be back representing Western Sydney,” said Milanovic.
“The opportunity to play overseas challenged me in a lot of ways and helped me grow as a player, and as a person. I’ll bring those experiences back with me, but I’m excited to be home and focus on what’s ahead.
“I know what this club is building and I want to be part of it. We have a real talented group, a passionate supporter base and a real opportunity to achieve something special together.
“The fans have always been unbelievable with me. Their support never stopped, even while I was away, and I can’t wait to pull the Red & Black again and play in front of them.”
