Western Sydney Wanderers Head Coach Ufuk Talay says the club is laying the foundations for long-term success, with a renewed focus on culture, standards and shared belief as preparations continue for the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League Men season.
Ahead of Tuesday night’s Sydney Super Cup clash against Premier League giants Chelsea FC, Talay said the changes taking place at the Wanderers extend well beyond what members and fans will see on the pitch.
While the opportunity to test his side against one of world football’s biggest clubs is one the group is embracing, Talay believes the most important work has already begun behind the scenes.
“Look, there’s some really good people at the club, and I think the club has been yearning for that success for a long time,” Talay said.
After arriving at the Wanderers ahead of the new season, Talay has been clear that creating lasting success won’t come from quick fixes, but from building the right habits, environment and culture every day.
“It’s a slow build. Things aren’t going to change overnight, but I think the players that we brought in, the staff that we have, we’re slowly trying to implement certain things that we believe will take the club forward.”
The Head Coach says the response from the playing group has been encouraging, with players embracing the expectations being set both on and off the field.
“I think there’s been good buy in from the players at the moment of what we’re trying to do on and off the field, but I think we’ll get there.”
Talay’s message reflects a broader shift within the football club. One built on patience, accountability and a commitment to raising standards every day.
Rather than chasing immediate headlines, the Wanderers are focused on building a culture that can withstand the challenges of a long A-League Men season. It is an approach centred on consistency, collective responsibility and earning success through daily actions.
“Like I said, it’s not going to happen overnight, but we’re slowly starting to get there.”
