A young Mooy came home one day and told his Mum how much he enjoyed playing with his friends – so she registered him at the Carlingford Redbacks.
“I just wanted to play and be involved in the game,” Mooy said.
Saturday morning was the pinnacle of the week but there was always one fixture that featured high on the agenda in the Mooy household.
The Blacktown local learnt about bragging rights at an early age – coming up against former Newcastle Jets player and cousin Brodie Mooy.
“That was always a big family thing because they all came out to watch us.”
It appears nothing much has changed over the years with Mooy – he thrives on being capable to cover plenty of the ground on the pitch but there-s one spot he is thankful is off limits now.
“I remember actually having to rotate and go in to goals as keeper and I hated that,” he said.
“I wanted to be scoring as many goals as possible.”
Mooy believes it-s important as a child to enjoy the fundamentals of the game in a friendly environment.
“If you play it for so long – then you should have fun,” he said.
“I loved the game back then and I still love it now.”
The Wanderers next play Newcastle Jets at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday night at 7.45pm.
