Western Sydney meets Western Australia as the Wanderers welcome Perth Gory to Spotless Stadium for Round 23 of the Hyundai A-League.

Sunday’s match marks the third and final meeting between the two sides this season with both heading into the fixture with one win apiece so far.
It was the Wanderers who claimed the three points in the first meeting of the season back in Round 1 at Spotless, with Oriol Riera and Jumpei Kusukami grabbing the goals for the Red & Black in a 2-1 win.
In the Round 18 meeting it was Perth who walked away 3-1 winners against a Wanderers out t who were reduced to 10 men in only the sixth minute following Keanu Baccus’ dismissal.
Perth return to Spotless on Sunday for what’s set to be a proverbial six-pointer as we enter into the pointy end of the season.
Despite last week’s loss in the Sydney Derby, the Wanderers came into Round 23 in sixth spot, just three points shy of the coveted fourth place spot.
After a last-gasp win against Melbourne City in Round 21, the Glory sat in eighth position on the ladder but only four points behind the Wanderers.
With only five games remaining in the regular season after Sunday’s fixture, there’s plenty at stake to say the least.
Historically, it’s the Wanderers who have the edge with eight wins in the 17 meetings between the pair, compared to the Glory’s five.
The Wanderers however boast a formidable record at home against today’s visitors, having won six of the eight clashes.
It’s a fixture that traditionally promises goals, with a goal average of 2.7 per game and with Perth having copped a league-high 42 goals this season, we may well that trend could continue on Sunday.
Wanderers front man, Oriol Riera, in particular, will fancy his chances of finding the net.
The number 9 has scored six goals in his last five matches to bring his season tally to 16 in all competitions, equalling Brendon Santalab’s 2016/17 record for most goals scored in a season by a Wanderer.
