The Western Sydney Wanderers Academy U17 squad have qualified for the 2018 Guangzhou International Championship Semi Final after a strong 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv.
Goals in the second half by Gabriel Popovic and Stephen De Robillard secured the win for the Red & Black in their final group stage match of the tournament against Dynamo Kyiv.
The Red & Black needed a win in the match to progress to the Semi Final and their hard work paid off late in the second half when Popovic broke through Kyiv’s defence and slotted home the opener.
A couple minutes later, Popovic replicated the same moves as his first goal but laid the ball off to De Robillard who tapped it in to make it 2-0.
The win marked the Red & Black’s second win of the group stage after thumping Asian arch-rivals Guangzhou Evergrande in the opening match of the tournament.
The Wanderers will now take on Spanish giants Villarreal CF in the Semi Final on Saturday night at 9:30pm.
