The Western Sydney Wanderers have recorded back to back wins in the NPL 2 on Saturday night with a convincing 4-0 victory over Macarthur Rams at Lynwood Park.

First half strikes from John Roberts and Thomas Aquilina put the Red & Black in control before goals from Marley Peterson and Mohamed Adam rounded off the scoring.

The game got off to a cagey start and our first chance came just after the quarter hour mark. Adam and Roberts combined well to set up Peterson who forced a solid save from Macarthur goalkeeper Jair Fernandez.

Peterson and Roberts then tried their luck from long range to range avail, while at the other range Nicholas Suman made an extraordinary point-blank save to deny Matthew Sadler.

With half-time approaching there were close calls at both ends, as Macarthur midfielder Ben Cornish struck the post with an effort from distance, with Roberts heading the ball inches wide less than a minute later.

Roberts wasn’t put off by the miss and broke the deadlock soon afterwards. Peterson was the provider, putting in a teasing cross from the left wing which left Roberts with a simple finish.

In the 40th minute, the Wanderers doubled their lead. Roberts was involved again, finding Adam in space and although his shot was saved, Aquilina followed up to net his second goal in two games.

The boys continued the momentum into the second half with chances for Peterson and Adam, before Wanderers substitute Samuel Silvera was denied twice in quick succession by Fernandez.

The Wanderers then grabbed their third goal of the game midway through the second half thanks to Peterson who finished well after a cross from Roberts was parried into his path.

Aquilina was having an excellent game and with about  15 minutes left, he played a part in the Wanderers fourth goal.

The ball broke kindly for Aquilina on the edge of the penalty area, and he played it to Adam, who blasted the ball past Fernandez.

However, the Red & Black didn’t have it all their own way and Suman was called into action again, making a confident save to keep out Sam Onana Awono’s header.

The Wanderers regained control, and Silvera had a curling effort saved by Fernandez, with Carluccio firing wide a few seconds later.

Adam was then denied by a point-blank save while Silvera had a late one-on-one chance, only to find Fernandez in the way.

The win completed a very successful outing to Lynwood Park for the Wanderers with the U20s winning 2-1 and U18s winning 6-0.

The Wanderers next NPL 2 match will be against Hills United at Marconi Stadium on Sunday 31 March. Kick-off is at 3:00pm.
