Here’s the low down.
1. Swiss International
Schwegler has featured in 14 games for the Swiss and made his debut for the national team in 2009 in a friendly match against Italy.
2. Bundesliga experience
The midfielder has spent majority of his career in the top tier of German football having played in over 260 matches in the domestic competition.
Schwegler has joined the Red & Black off the back of a solid campaign for Hannover 96 where he made 27 appearances.
3. UEFA Europa League
Schwegler has played in the UEFA Europa League with two of his former clubs. Bayer Leverkusen and more recently Eintracht Frankfurt.
4. Land down under
Despite visiting Australia before, the move to the Western Sydney Wanderers will mark Schwegler’s very first time playing outside of Europe.
5. Charity
Having had his own struggles with health as a youngster, Schwegler launched his own Childhood Cancer Foundation to support all aspects of diagnosis, treatment and care of children and adolescents with cancer at the University Children’s Hospital Bern. To find out more click here.
