The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team ended their winless run on Saturday evening, defeating Macarthur Rams 3-0 at Sydney United Sports Centre.
Mohamed Adam was the star of the show with a hat trick, one which takes his tally for the season to 18 goals in only 17 games.
Jarrod Carluccio had the Wanderers first chance after a loose ball fell his way in the penalty area and his shot was blocked by a defender.
The next opportunity for the Red & Black came when Jacob Vasiliou attempted a bicycle kick with the defence getting in the way again.
On 25 minutes, Noah Pagden threw himself in front of a goalbound effort from Andre Guzman and this would prove crucial as the Wanderers took the lead just before half-time. Vasiliou’s long range effort was parried by Macarthur goalkeeper Jacob Madden and Adam was the first to the rebound to make it 1-0.
The Wanderers carried the momentum from the opening goal into the second half. Some nice link-up play created chances for Vasiliou, Adam and Marley Peterson in quick succession, but they were all deflected wide of the target.
The Red & Black’s pressure finally told in the 56th minute as they made it 2-0. Vasiliou found Peterson in space just outside the area and when his low cross was fumbled, Adam forced the ball into the net.
There was little more than 20 minutes remaining when the Wanderers sealed the victory.
Bailey Rule won a penalty after a good overlapping run and Adam took the responsibility, calmly slotting the ball away from his hat trick.
Adam could even have netted a fourth goal when he got behind the defence after playing a nice one-two with Peterson, but his delicate chip came back off the crossbar.
The comfortable scoreline allowed the Wanderers to give some game time to some youngsters with Evan Tsakos and Callum Watt both making their 1st Grade debuts in the second half.
The result keeps the Wanderers in fourth place and capped off another successful day for the Academy with victories in six out of seven grades.
The Wanderers have a short away trip for their next match, travelling to Lily homes Stadium to face Hills United on Saturday night. Kick-off is at 7:00pm.
