The Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 team were defeated 4-2 by Hills United at Lily Homes Stadium on Saturday night.

Goals from Marley Peterson and Mohamed Adam weren’t enough on the night as Daine Merrin, Jordan Parfait and Kento Sakurai netted for Hills, while an unfortunate own goal added to their tally.

The game got off to the worst possible start with Merrin scoring a penalty for Hills in the fourth minute.

The Wanderers first chance came when Bailey Rule played a fantastic pass to release Adam but his shot flew wide.

Hills then doubled their lead through Parfait, however the Red & Black responded within a minute. Peterson ran behind the defence after a great ball over the top from Noah Pagden, finding the top corner to make it 2-1.

A few minutes later, Jarrod Carluccio set Peterson up for a shot which was deflected wide.

Midway through the first half, Andrea Agamemnonos did well to weave his way past three defenders only to be denied by Hills goalkeeper Shaun Catlin.

The Wanderers were beginning to build some momentum and soon afterwards Yousef Sawalha sent a long-range effort over the crossbar.

However, Hills made it 3-1 on the half hour when Sakurai scored and five minutes later an unlucky own goal from Mohamed Al Taay gave Hills a 4-1 lead.

The boys didn’t let their heads drop and they pulled a goal back in spectacular fashion just before half-time.

Adam collected a loose ball in the penalty area, smashing the ball in off the crossbar from a seemingly impossible angle.

The Wanderers continued to push in the second half and Vasiliou shot inches wide from the edge of the penalty area.

Wanderers substitute Jake Trew then made an immediate impact, winning a penalty after being fouled by Catlin. Peterson took the spot kick, however Catlin was able to make the save.

Evan Tsakos came on as a substitute in the final 20 minutes and looked lively for the Red & Black. He picked out Trew with a nice cross but the header was off target.

In the dying minutes, Adam took a free kick from 35 yards out forcing Catlin to push the ball wide.

The defeat means the Red & Black will now stay in fourth place. Next weekend, the Wanderers will have another away trip and they’ll meet Rydalmere Lions at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday night. Kick-off is at 7:00pm.
