Western Sydney Wanderers new signing Radoslaw Majewski says there’s plenty of positives to take from the Red & Black’s performance against Leeds United.
After arriving in Australia two weeks ago from Ekstraklasa side Pogon Szczecin, Majewski started in the Wanderers historic clash against English Championship side Leeds United.
The match was played at the Red & Black’s spiritual home of Wanderland in front of a raucous 24,419 crowd with Majewski believing it was the best way for the team to continue developing in the long pre-season.
“It was a massive event for us, it’s the best one before the season and before the (FFA) Cup starts as well,” said Majewski.
“I think we expected from ourselves more and there’s lots of work to do in the pre-season.
“I hope we get there, we’re getting to know each other better and that’s what pre-seasons are.
“It wasn’t our best game but there was some good stuff and we will go from there.”
On his own personal performance, Majewski was looking forward to getting into a better rhythm with his new teammates.
“I didn’t really do what I expected from myself, but slowly, literally I haven’t been in Australia for two weeks,” said Majewski.
“But I’ve gotten to know some of the guys so in the position I play in, I need to co-operate with the wingers and the strikers.
“It’s not too bad at the minute but it’s going to be much better.”
The Wanderers stood their own against the English Championship side and almost got close to the perfect homecoming, but a last-minute stoppage time goal saw the Red & Black slip 2-1.
“I think it’s good to play games like that, it’s a different intensity and it’s a different event as well because it’s in our stadium and it was our very first game so you try to show yourself off as good as you can,” said Majewski.
“But we can’t forget that it was a friendly game and we are going to play a lot of them before the season starts and the Cup as well.
“We just need to think about the positives from the game.
“Leeds were a good opponent, Championship club, I just remind myself how tough the Championship is because they’re on the man all the time and probably in the (Hyundai A-League) league games it’ll be very similar.”
