Wanderers Westfield W-League coach Dean Heffernan is getting the Red & Black ready for a massive season.
Heffernan said lots of hard work has been put into place over the last four months to make the Wanderers a force to be reckoned with in the W-League competition.
“We have been working hard for a good three to four months now and it seems it is now starting to heat up a bit,” Heffernan said.
“The phone calls and contacts we made earlier on are starting to come back to us. It’s getting close to the season so the players are very well aware of getting their futures sorted.
“I am very hopeful we will have some exciting news regarding a few signings from overseas…they are very good players and will add not just to the Wanderers, but to the competition as a whole.”
With the countdown now on until the Westfield W-League season starts in November, Heffernan said he was delighted with where his squad stands at the moment.
“We are really happy with where we are at. We have watched the majority of the NPL this season and feel like we have the best couple of players out of there,” explained Heffernan.
“We have watched a lot of the future Matildas and the under 19s and we definitely feel we have the best players from that as well. It is the same with the players we have retained from last year.
“Things are falling into place nicely.”
“There is a big push for sure. The fact is, it is the Wanderers and the expectation when you put on the Red & Black jersey is that you perform and win things,” Heffernan added.
“The club has to challenge for things and always be involved in the big games at the end of the season. But, expectations alone are not enough, there has to be more.”
