Jurman: It’s not going to be easy but that’s what it is all about

Wanderers defender Matt Jurman on the team’s return to training and the direction they want to head in ahead of the season resuming in mid-July.

Having been off since the league’s suspension in late March, Jurman and the Wanderers have felt the frustration of not being able to do what they love.

The Red & Black were steadily gaining momentum prior to the break, earning draws against Melbourne City and Sydney FC in some gallant performances.

“It’s probably the longest break we’ve had in football, probably since we started playing,” said Jurman on the break.

“So for a lot of us, everyone’s at different levels and all that type of stuff but everyone’s just buzzing to be back at training.

“For us players, we knew we were going in the right direction and I’m sure the coaching staff knew and everyone knew as well.

“I’m sure the coaching staff knew as well so the break came at a hard time for us.”

With five games in hand, the Wanderers still have a strong chance to make the Finals Series and are currently sitting only one point out of the six.

“We felt in the games that we were doing a lot better and I think. it showed with the results,” said Jurman.

“Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to get back to that level we were at, you know we can make some big steps moving forward in the next few games to get into that Finals Series.

The next month will be a massive challenge for the Red & Black to get back to where they were before, but it’s a challenge they are taking in their stride said Jurman.

“It’s hard (the break) because we were at such a high, finally at our peak, in terms of fitness and games,” explained Jurman.

“For me personally, you know coming back now I think the coaches are quickly going to get us up to the level that they want us.

“It’s not going to be easy but that’s what it is all about. Putting in the effort to get the results in the games we have coming up.

“I think we’ve shown in games that we can play against the best and it’s making sure that we put in the same effort for every game that we play.

“At the end of the day, every game is three points. it’s important to win every game where we are in the table so I’ll be pushing the lads along with everyone else to make sure we get those points.”
