Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed the dates, kick-off times and venues of the club’s remaining fixtures of the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season.
The Red & Black have been out of action since the Sydney Derby in late March and only recently returned back to training at the Wanderers Centre of Football.
With just over two weeks to go until the resumption of the Hyundai A-League, Football Federation Australia (FFA) today announced the league-wide match dates and kick-off times for the final 27 matches of the season which will be played in a 30-day blockbuster.
Matches will feature across FOX SPORTS, SKY Sport (NZ), ABC TV, Kayo Sports and MyFootball Live App, Live Fast and Data Free for Telstra mobile customers.
The Wanderers will play all of their remaining five matches of the regular season in the 7:30pm time slot, first taking on Melbourne Victory at Bankwest Stadium on Wednesday 22 July before travelling to Central Coast Stadium to play the Mariners on Monday 27 July.
Two home matches at Bankwest Stadium will follow, Friday 31 July and Tuesday 4 August, with the Red & Black facing Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory respectively.
The Wanderers will then wrap up the regular season in an away fixture against Western United on Friday 7 August with the venue yet to be confirmed.
Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said that he looks forward to the club’s return to Bankwest Stadium.
“We are excited to be returning to Bankwest Stadium on Wednesday 22 July and hope in the next two weeks we have some further clarification on allowing fans into stadium to support the team for our push to the finals,” said Tsatsimas.
“Our members and fans are fundamental to us as a club and we are working hard behind the scenes to find ways to give them access to the game in the safest environment possible.
“The past months have been a testing time for all in our community and we hope that the return of football can be a small relief from the difficulties many are facing during this pandemic.”
Wanderers Hyundai A-League interim head coach Jean-Paul de Marigny said the team was looking to pick up where they left off.
“We’re going to prepare the players the best we can for this period,” said de Marigny.
“From the first day (back at training), we said to the players that we needed to be where we ended.
“That’s our goal, that’s what we are working for, to get to that position physically and mentally.
“We need to start quickly, we need to start with a lot of aggression, and then all the results will come through that.
“We’re back to finish what we started, for me, it’s as simple as that. It’s the theme and it’s the mantra, and that’s what we are going to be doing.”
Wanderers Hyundai A-League captain Mitchell Duke believes the team has unfinished business.
“It’s a good challenge, I think all the boys are going to be in the right way to be physically ready for each game as the preparation time is not too much different to what’s in Europe,” said Duke.
“The goal personally and for the restart is to make that final six. We are only three points away.
“Western United have a game in hand but we’ve also got them in the final five of the fixture. That’s a big opportunity for us to take advantage and get that result to push for the Finals.
“If we can regain that form we were in before the break, we can cause a lot of problems.
“We’re back and we’re ready to cause some damage, and make that Final Six.”
