The Wanderers Academy youth teams had a field day against Mount Druitt Town Rangers over the weekend and were undefeated across all their grades.
U13s coached by Peter Kofinas
1-1 draw
The U13s played a tough side that made the match a very difficult task. Even though Mount Druitt’s idea was to prevent the Wanderers from playing, the players did well to retain most of the ball throughout the match and create opportunities to score goals. Unfortunately the Red & Black didn’t take those chances and it ultimately cost them in the end. The Wanderers were proud of the maturity shown by the players to keep focused on the game and what was needed from them but they look to improve in some areas for our next game.
U14s coached by Rob Bradshaw
2-0 win
The Wanderers started the game with a very good intensity and controlled the majority of the first half with some excellent ball movement. The first goal came from a corner and a fortunate ball that fell to George Kayik who volleyed his effort into the goal. The Red & Black limited the Rangers to minimal efforts on goal, however they played with more intent during the back-end of the half. The second half started similarly to the first, although the Wanderers were playing good football in patches and needed to maintain this for longer periods. Mansour El Masri scored from a tough angle to put the U14s ahead 2-0 to wrap up the match.
U15s coached by Geoff Abrahams
6-0 win
A great performance against a determined opposition saw the Wanderers come out on top in this fixture. The Wanderers competed well, were great in build-up and were ruthless in front of goal. It was a proud team performance and goals were scored by Edmun Haddad (2), Miguel Dipizo (2) and Max Hately (2).
U16s coached by Shaf Sagol
3-0 win
It was another proud display of football by the U16s with a 3-0 win against a side who sat off in a deep and stubborn narrow block. The players did well to keep composed throughout the game and not force play against a side who looked to hit on the counter. The youngsters showed a lot of maturity by managing the game and tempo by shifting the opponents to create space so that it could be exploited. It was one of, if not, the best performance by the U16s this season. Braeden Andreotti, Danish Awaz, and Rhys Youlley were the young guns to get on the scoresheet.
U18s coached by Tom Vidovic
7-1 win
The U18ss recorded a huge 7-1 victory over Mount Druitt. In a dominant performance from start to finish, the Wanderers went into the half time break at 1-1 then scored six unanswered goals in the second half.
U20s coached by Yianni Tsattalios
2-1 win against APIA Leichhardt
The U20s opened their NPL 1 account on the weekend with a come-from-behind win against a solid APIA side. The Wanderers went behind early in the second half, however, maintained their composure and continued to dominate possession to create plenty of chances. If not for some good goalkeeping from the APIA keeper, Stefan Nikolic could have brought the Red & Black back on level terms, finding himself on the end of some good build-up play but couldn’t apply the finishing touches.
The Wanderers dominated much of the second half and got their reward late in the game with Alessandro Lopane finding the net in the 82nd min and George Antonis netting the winner in the 87th minute after some great individual skill from Jacob Vasiliou.
