The Western Sydney Wanderers have ended their 2016/17 Foxtel National Youth League season with a 6-2 win against the FFA Centre of Excellence on Sunday afternoon at Popondetta Park.
Despite sitting top of Conference B heading into the final round of the season this weekend, the Wanderers have the bye and will be unable to hold onto top spot due to fixtures elsewhere.
With only first place qualifying for the Grand Final to meet Conference A winners Melbourne City, it effectively spells the end of what was a positive campaign for Trevor Morgan’s side.
The Red & Black made sure they went out winners though with a brilliant second-half display against the FFA Centre of Excellence yesterday.
The Wanderers found themselves playing from behind after the away side drew first blood from an early free-kick.
There would be a swift reply however when Steve Lustica found the net after being set up by Abraham Majok to bring the sides level heading into the break.
The Wanderers would take the lead soon after the restart with Ramy Najjarine getting his name on the scoresheet.
Goals to Keanu Baccus and Abraham Majok sent the Red & Black further into the lead before the FFA Centre of Excellence pegged one back to make it 4-2.
The Wanderers continued to pour forward with Mario Shabow grabbing a goal with a free-kick before Kyle Cimenti put the icing on the cake to round off a 6-2 victory.
The win sees the Wanderers finish the season on 13 points from eight games.
