Twenty-one players from the Western Sydney Wanderers Girls’ Academy have been selected to represent Football NSW’s Metro and Country squads at the 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships, taking place at Valentine Sports Park from 15–20 July.
Formerly known as the National Youth Championships, the tournament brings together the country’s top Under 15 and Under 16 female footballers, offering a key platform for national team identification and development.
The Championships have helped launch the careers of stars like Ellie Carpenter, Caitlin Foord, Bryleeh Henry and Jessika Nash, and continue to play a vital role in shaping future CommBank Matildas.
The 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships is proudly supported by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
Football NSW Player Development Manager for Girls, Nadine Shiels, praised the effort of all selected players:
“I am beyond proud of all players selected across the girls state team program,” said Football NSW’s Player Development Manager for Girls Nadine Shiels.
“These players have worked tirelessly and put in the extras to be selected to represent their state at the Emerging Matildas Championships.
“A huge thank you goes to the clubs and coaches for their efforts and contributions to these players being best placed to be selected for such a prestigious event.
“With only a handful of players having been to a tournament at this level previously, it will be a great learning and development experience for so many players and coaches.
“We are excited to get into our preparations for the tournament and to see what these players can achieve both individually and as a team at the tournament.”
Congratulations to all selected Wanderers players – we’re proud to see so many Red & Black representatives competing on the national stage.
