The Western Sydney Wanderers (“Wanderers”) and Epic Games (“Epic”) are celebrating global football in Fortnite, alongside more than 20 other top clubs around the world.
Starting January 24, players can choose from 10 different variants of new “Kickoff Set” Outfits to represent their favorite club in-game. Each Outfit can be swapped to any of the 23 football clubs participating, including Atlanta United, A.C. Milan and the Western Sydney Wanderers. Additionally, players will be able to earn or purchase two new emotes, including a “Fancy Footwork” dribbling emote and the iconic “Pelé’s Air Punch” celebration thanks to Epic’s partnership with the legendary Brazilian footballer.
Fortnite players and footballers around the world can jump into the game on January 20 for the opportunity to earn rewards even earlier by participating in the Pelé Cup. Anyone playing the game can also visit the Creative Hub for an immersive football experience throughout the week and join select clubs around the world in hosted Fortnite tournaments.
In a first for any Australian sport, each of the three participating A-League clubs, including Western Sydney Wanderers, will have their own personalised jerseys in-game. The Wanderers will partner with Sydney FC and Melbourne City FC to host their own dedicated Fortnite show match on January 27 at 17.30 PM AEDT with a mix of A-League players, fans and Fortnite creators competing for exclusive Fortnite and A-League prize packs.
The Wanderers will be sharing details on its social media channels this week on how fans can participate. Nicolai Muller will be headlining the event for Western Sydney Wanderers, on January 27.
“The Western Sydney Wanderers being a part of this global launch is very exciting for our growing youth audience,” said Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas.
“Being the first sport in Australia to connect with fans through Fortnite is an amazing opportunity and one I am sure many of our fans will embrace and be eager to wear the Black and Red hoops in the game.”
“Football is consistently one of the top sports that our players tell us they want to see and experience in Fortnite. We’re excited to partner with the Western Sydney Wanderers to bring ‘the beautiful game’ to Fortnite fans around the world as they face off in competitive tournaments, experience new creative modes of gameplay, and celebrate global football,”said Nate Nanzer, Head of Global Partnerships at Epic Games:
