Western Sydney Wanderers Academy quartet Lachlan Allen, Georgio Hassarati, Emile Katrib and Marcus Savic have been selected in the CommBank Joeys squad for the upcoming U17 Copa España 2026 in Spain.
The four Wanderers have been named in Australia’s 2009-born squad for the international tournament, which will run from 21 September to 2 October and represents the group’s final activity before selection for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
Goalkeeper Allen, attacker Hassarati and defenders Katrib and Savic will join Head Coach Carl Veart’s squad for matches against Panama and Morocco at the Mediterranean Sports Complex in Salou.
The international window provides another significant opportunity for the four young Wanderers to test themselves against high-level opposition as they continue their development through the club’s Academy pathway.
For Hassarati, Katrib and Savic, the selection follows their elevation into the Wanderers’ scholarship ranks ahead of the 2026/27 season, while Allen continues his progression through the Red & Black Academy system.
Australia will first face Panama on Thursday 24 September before meeting Morocco on Tuesday 29 September.
The tournament forms part of Football Australia’s final preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, with Veart highlighting the importance of the upcoming international matches.
“This is an important window for both groups, albeit at different stages of their development,” Veart said.
“For the 2009-born players, Spain represents our final activity before selection for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, so the matches against Panama and Morocco will be valuable in testing the group against different styles of international opposition.
“We’ve continued to build throughout the year and this window gives us another opportunity to reinforce the way we want to play, while also seeing how the players respond to the demands of international football away from home.”
Football Australia has also selected a 2010-born CommBank Joeys squad to compete at the U16 CFA Invitational 2026 in China during the same international window.
That group, led by Paul Reid, will face Vietnam, Kyrgyz Republic and hosts China PR in what will be the first opportunity for the 2010-born cohort to travel and compete together against international opposition.
