On Friday, 16 February 2024, the independent Appeal Committee comprising of Dominic Villa SC (Chair), Arthur Koumoukelis and Justin Quill convened to consider an appeal of a Determination made by the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee (the D&EC) in relation to an incident in or around the 66th minute of Western Sydney Wanderers FCās (Wanderers) match against Western United FC on Saturday, 27 January 2024, in which Aidan Simmons (the Player) received a direct Red Card (the D&EC Determination).
In its Determination on Friday, 9 February 2024, the D&EC upheld the initial sanction proposed by the Match Review Panel in relation to the matter, determining that the Player was required to serve a suspension of three (3) Isuzu UTE A-League Men matches, being the Minimum Sanction for the Offence plus two (2) additional open to the D&EC having regard to the evidence before it.
The Appeal Committee dismissed the Playerās appeal.
As the Player has already served two (2) matches of the suspension, he will be:
- ineligible for the Wanderersā next Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Central Coast Mariners FC on Sunday, 18 February 2024; and
- eligible to participate in the Wanderersā following Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Adelaide United FC on Saturday, 24 February 2024.
