China PR kicked off their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ campaign in style, securing a 2-0 victory against debutants Bangladesh in Group B at Western Sydney Stadium on Tuesday.
Two first-half goals ensured the nine-time champions got off to a winning start, joining DPR Korea, who defeated Uzbekistan 3-0 earlier, as the early pace-setters in the group.
The East Asian side dominated early proceedings, with Liu Jing narrowly missing from a long-range volley and later forcing a save from Bangladesh goalkeeper Mile Akter.
Wang Shuang went close twice before finally breaking the deadlock in the 44th minute, finishing a precise pass from Zhang Chengxue with a powerful strike into the top corner.
China PR doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when Akter’s punch fell kindly to Zhang Rui, who slotted home a composed low strike.
Despite Bangladesh’s improved play after the interval, China PR maintained control, with further efforts from Chengxue and substitute Zhang Xin testing the opposition’s goal.
While Wang Ying and Yuan Cong were part of the extended China PR squad, they didn’t feature on the field against Bangladesh.
Nevertheless, their inclusion highlights the strength and depth of the squad as they continue their title defence.
China PR will look to maintain momentum when they face Uzbekistan on Friday, while Bangladesh face another challenging fixture against DPR Korea.
