NRMA Insurance Western Sydney Wanderers defender Jonathan Aspropotamitis today signed a two-year contract extension.

The 19-year-old centre back has impressed in the Red & Black with mature performances in the Hyundai A-League and the AFC Champions League with 12 appearances for the Club to date.

After coming through the Wanderers Foxtel NYL team, Aspro debuted for the first team against Melbourne City in Round 10 of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

Aspropotamitis said he was looking forward to continue to improve his game with the Club.

“I’m thrilled to sign for two more years. I think for me as a young centre back in Australia it’s the perfect club for me to progress my game and develop as a player,” said Aspropotamitis.

“I joined the Club in the National Youth League team and I have improved a lot thanks to the coaches and players I have had around me and the advice I have taken on board to learn from everyone at the Club.”

“I’ve still got a lot to improve and that’s why I have signed for two more years because I feel the best development as a centre back is at this football club, especially under two of the best defenders Australia has ever produced in Tony Popovic and Hayden Foxe.

“To have the coaches and the senior players I have here giving me advice every day has enhanced my experience as a professional footballer and will continue to improve me moving forward.”

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said the signing shows the confidence the Club has in its young players.

“Jonathan has been an excellent find for the Wanderers, he showed great potential in the NYL and has taken his opportunities in the first team with both hands,” said Tsatsimas.

“We think he will continue to develop here and really go to the next level as a centre back. He has the maturity, the composure and the determination to become a very important player for this club and we are delighted to have him sign for an additional two years.”
