Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today confirmed that defender Nathan Barrie has signed a three-year scholarship deal with the Red & Black.
The 18-year-old joined the Wanderers Academy under 18s squad two seasons ago and has worked his way up through the ranks to the Isuzu UTE A-League team.
Barrie made his A-League debut for the club during the 2023/24 season and went on to make two first team appearances for the club.
More recently, the defender was called up to the Subway Young Socceroos for a domestic training camp this month.
Barrie said he was delighted to be signing a scholarship contract with the Wanderers.
“I went straight to my parents, they were stoked for me. It was a no brainer to be honest – coming through the National Premier League system, that’s what you want, a scholarship deal. So I’m really excited and really happy for it,” said Barrie.
“Three years sounds like a long time but I know it’s going to go just like that, but I’m excited to be able to contribute to the team and play as many minutes as I can.
“I want to give it my all, give my 110% into everything. In training, in games, I just want to be the best person and player I can be.
“My teammates have been really helpful this last season and have really been mentors for me. Especially Marcelo, he’s given me so much advice that you can’t get anywhere else and he’s such a class player. I feel really privileged to have someone like that.
“I just think hard work will always get you there. I’m still at school, so when I don’t work hard I don’t get the grades so that translates to football as well. I think I just have to keep working as hard as I can and hopefully I get to that next level.”
