Bozhidar Kraev was among the standout performers as the Western Sydney Wanderers secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over the Central Coast Mariners at CommBank Stadium on Saturday night.
His early strike gave the Red & Black the perfect start in a high-intensity contest that showcased the team’s attacking intent, resilience, and determination.
Kraev’s goal came in the opening minutes, converting a rebound from Alou Kuol’s header to put the Wanderers ahead.
The Mariners responded with a deflected strike from Lucas Mauragis, but Kosta Barbarouses quickly restored the lead and added a penalty to make it 3–1, before Alfie McCalmont’s penalty narrowed the gap.
Despite a late surge from the visitors, the Wanderers held firm, with Lawrence Thomas making a crucial save in stoppage time to ensure the three points stayed at home.
Reflecting on the win and his performance, Kraev said, “I feel amazing. We put a lot of effort tonight to conquer the first three points of the season, my first goal, and we are very happy, very satisfied.”
On his opening goal, he added, “Feeling amazing. The atmosphere was so good for us, very important. I was a little bit under pressure this week, and after the positive result, everything is good now.”

Looking ahead to the Sydney Derby, Kraev stressed the team’s focus and determination.

“It’s probably the biggest game of the year, so we’re going to put a lot of effort in. We’re going to adjust the tactics for this week, and then we’re going to give our maximum and hopefully take another step forward with another three points.”
He also had a message for the club’s members and fans.
“I want to say to them to support us as much as possible, to outsing the other crowd, and we will appreciate it,” he said.
With Kraev among several strong performers and the squad building confidence from their first win, the Wanderers head into Derby Week ready to tackle one of the season’s most anticipated fixtures.
