Western Sydney Wanderers FC have tonight confirmed the signing of defender Phillip Cancar for the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Phillip Cancar left Australia at 16 to pursue opportunities in Croatia with Lokomotiva Zagreb and Hrvatski Dragovoljac before returning in 2020 to join the Red & Black, progressing from the Wanderers Academy into the A-Leagues set-up.
Cancar made 12 A-League appearances for the Red & Black in 2021/22 before signing with Scottish Premiership club Livingston FC in May 2022. After gaining experience in Scotland, he returned to the A-Leagues to join the Newcastle Jets.

Since then, Cancar became a regular starter, tallying 43 A-League appearances and establishing himself as a key figure in the domestic competition.
Western Sydney Wanderers Head coach Alen Stajcic said the signing was a fantastic opportunity to recognise Phillip’s progression and ongoing development.
“Phillip’s a great addition to the group,” said Stajcic.
“He knows what this club is about and brings the right mindset. We see great potential in him as he looks to continue his development, and we’re confident he’ll progress in this environment.
“He’s got the drive to improve and understands the standards we expect,” Stajcic added.
“We’re looking forward to helping him grow as both a player and a leader.”
Phillip Cancar said he’s proud to be back at the club and determined to make the most of the opportunity.
“This club is home to me. I made my debut here, and once I spoke to the coach, I was all in. We’re heading in the right direction, and I want to be a part of it,” said Cancar.
“My goals are to win and be a leader on the pitch, but also to be a good person off the pitch and give back to the fans and community for everything they do for this club.”
