COVID CASES AT WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS CONFIRMED, ROUND SIX MATCH POSTPONED

The A-Leagues regrets to announce that another game this weekend, round six of the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s season, has been postponed due to COVID cases.

The scheduled match between the Newcastle Jets and the Western Sydney Wanderers due to be held on Sunday 26 December has been postponed as a result of positive COVID cases within the Western Sydney Wanderers team.

The Wanderers men’s football department is currently in isolation and awaiting further test results.

The other two scheduled matches for 26 December Melbourne Victory v Western United and Macarthur FC v Sydney FC remain as scheduled.

All positive cases involve double-vaccinated individuals who tested positive to PCR tests on the 24 or 25 December.

Our primary concern is for the health, wellbeing and safety of all players, staff and their families, especially over the Christmas period. All positive cases and those close to them are adhering to relevant state government health directives, in close consultation with the A-Leagues.

As a result of the number of cases, the A-Leagues have determined that game postponement is necessary to ensure the spread of the virus is limited and the health of our Clubs is ensured.

The A-Leagues protocols continue to be effective for screening and subsequent PCR testing in detecting the virus and ensuring immediate isolation.

We will continue to work with the Clubs involved on confirming a new schedule for the postponed match as soon as possible.
