Cox family welcomes first child

Simon Cox

While it may have been on the other side of the world, Simon Cox got some welcome news today with his partner Sam welcoming the birth of their first child Ella-Rae in the early hours of Friday morning.

Being on the other side of the world due to COVID restrictions Cox was 17,000km away on the training pitch at the Wanderers Football Park when Ella-Rae was welcomed into the world.

Originally due on 11 February, it wasn’t until the early hours of the morning in the UK that Ella-Rae was born.

Receiving the news coming off the pitch, Cox was elated.

“On Friday 26 February a 1:35am GMT, myself and my partner welcomed our beautiful and healthy baby girl to the world weighing 7lbs 4oz,” said Cox.

“I couldn’t be happier, obviously I wish I could have been there in person but we’re doing the best thing for our family and I can’t wait to meet my little girl and hold her in my arms.

“Sam has done an amazing job and I am so proud of how she has handled this situation, she’s an incredible woman.”

The entire club sends their congratulations and support to Sam and Ella-Rae who are currently based in the United Kingdom.

Simon made the difficult decision in January to stay in Western Sydney with the Wanderers for the remainder of the season, a sacrifice that meant missing the birth of his first child.

Simon said both Sam and Ella-Rae were doing well.

“Both Ella-Rae and Sam are doing great and we couldn’t be happier and I can’t wait to get them here with me as soon as possible.”

The club will continue to support Simon and his family during this time and are working to get Sam and Ella-Rae over to Western Sydney.
