Crofts on debut and Derby Day

Midfielder Ashlie Crofts on scoring on her debut for the club and the upcoming Sydney Derby challenge that lies ahead.

Crofts made her debut for the Red & Black coming on as a substitute in last week’s draw against Newcastle Jets at Wanderers Football Park and immediately made an impact, scoring the equaliser in the fixture.

Playing for her hometown club this season, after two seasons in Canberra, made the debut and goal so much more special for Crofts and her family.

“It was pretty exciting making my debut and scoring my first goal for the club,” said Crofts.

“I’m from Western Sydney so to get a goal on my debut for this awesome club is all I wanted.

“I wanted three points but I’ll take the goal.

“It’s crazy, I used to go to the old Pirtek Stadium back in the day and sing with the RBB so to play for this awesome club is a dream come true.

“As soon as we found out that I was on the bench, everyone wanted a ticket to come down to the game so it was pretty exciting.”

Crofts and the Wanderers have turned their attention this week to the Sydney Derby where they’ll be hoping to build on their impressive performance against the Jets.

The Red & Black last faced their cross-town rivals at the start of the month and will be pushing for a different outcome, having been defeated 2-0 at home.

“I’ll give it everything I’ve got and hopefully we can get three points in our next match,” said Crofts.

“We’ll now review the game, see what we can work on and hopefully take all three points.”
