Popondetta Park is set to host to a massive afternoon of football this Sunday when the Wanderers’ Westfield W-League and Foxtel National Youth League sides play out a double header.
The Wander Women will kick things off at 3:00pm against league leaders Melbourne City before the table-topping Wanderers boys square-off against the Newcastle Jets at 7:30pm.
Entry to both games is free for Wanderers Members.
Rich Byrne’s W-League side are in for a massive test against reigning champions City, who will be aiming to get things back on track after suffering their first ever loss as a club last week to Canberra.
The Wanderers will take plenty of confidence from last week’s effort against the Victory, where they fought back twice to take home a valuable away point.
American import Katie Stengel found the last minute equaliser in that game and the Red & Black will once again look to the powerful striker to lead from the front.
With City boasting an impressive mix of both Matildas and international stars, the game will be a big occasion for what is a young and hungry Wanderers outfit.
At 7:30pm, it’ll be Trevor Morgan’s NYL side entertaining the Newcastle Jets in a match that could decide who takes top spot after Round 6.
Both sides sit on seven points but it’s the Red & Black who sit first with their impressive +10 goal difference; thanks in large part to their 8-0 thumping of the FFA Centre of Excellence.
The Wanderers and the Jets have already met this season, with the latter claiming a 4-3 win on the opening day of the season.
The Red & Black however are unbeaten in three and will be hopeful of extracting some revenge for that Round 1 defeat.
