Dylan Scicluna: Back, bold and making an impact

It’s been a long journey back for Dylan Scicluna, but the 21-year-old midfielder is already showing why Wanderers members and fans were so excited about his breakout potential last season.

Scicluna’s 2024/25 campaign was cut short by an ACL injury, just as he was hitting his stride. Before the setback, he had made seven starts in nine games and earned a call-up to the senior Malta squad.

This season, he has returned in the opening rounds of the 2025/26 Isuzu A-League, coming off the bench and injecting energy and creativity whenever he steps onto the pitch.

Even in Friday night’s 2-0 loss at Adelaide, Scicluna was a shining light, lifting the team with his composure and vision in a game where chances were hard to come by.

Head coach Alen Stajcic reflected on Dylan’s impact since his return.

“We all know that’s an injury that takes a lot of time to recover from, not just to get back on the pitch but to find your rhythm in a game,” said Stajcic.

“He’s an unbelievable footballer, such a special talent. It was a shame his season was cut short last year, but he’s worked really hard.”

Speaking specifically about his performance off the bench against Adelaide, Stajcic highlighted just how important Dylan has been in lifting the team when called upon.

“He’s been excellent when he’s come on. Very good again tonight,” said Stajcic.

“Even in a frustrating result, he was a bright spot. He brings energy, composure, and vision to the game that can change the dynamics whenever he steps onto the pitch.”

The Wanderers coach also reflected on Dylan’s long-term potential.

“He’s got an incredible future ahead of him. For us, it’s about finding the moment where he can get more game time, build rhythm, and get used to playing more minutes.

“It’s a process, and he’s approaching it with maturity. Every appearance is helping him regain confidence and sharpness, and it’s exciting to see him start to rediscover the form that had everyone so excited before his injury.”

It’s a careful balance, but one that Scicluna seems to be navigating with maturity beyond his years.

His energy, vision, and composure have already added a new dimension to the Wanderers’ attacking play, and his growing confidence hints at what could be a continued breakout season.

With each appearance, Dylan Scicluna is reminding everyone why he was tipped for big things, and the Wanderers are eager to see just how high his potential can take him.
